Volunteer in Elmina: Direct Community Placements, Zero Agencies.
Work alongside a permanent Ghanaian organisation that has served the Central Coast for two decades. Live in our private Foundation volunteer house, co-deliver projects with qualified local staff, and know precisely where every dollar of your placement fee goes.
Local Leadership, Not Voluntourism
We are not a travel agency and there is no foreign head office. The team that meets you at Kotoka International Airport in Accra is the same team running projects on the ground in Elmina.
Our placements are built around genuine co-delivery: you will never replace a Ghanaian professional or teach children unsupervised. Working under our statutory partnership with the KEEA Municipal Education Directorate, volunteers serve as teaching assistants, digital mentors, and skilled pairs alongside certified Ghanaian educators and local artisans.
Five Focused Placement Streams
You are matched to one primary stream according to your professional skills and academic background.
1. Education & Classroom Support
Assist class teachers in basic schools, run remedial reading clubs, prepare syllabus-aligned phonics aids, and support after-school study circles.
Suits: Teachers, education students, and foundational literacy mentors.
2. Eco-Clubs & Plastic Upcycling
Operate as a dedicated MKF Environmental Facilitator. Establish and mentor school Eco-Clubs across the municipality, organise plastic recovery drives where collected bottles support community meal distributions, and design creative recycling initiatives.
Suits: Environmental science students, youth organisers, and sustainability advocates.
3. Digital Literacy & Computer Laboratories
Co-teach practical ICT lessons inside our established facilities (such as the Breman ICT Centre and Elmina Innovation Centre). Guide pupils through basic software navigation, touch-typing, offline STEM repositories, and foundational coding.
Suits: Software developers, IT professionals, computer science students, and STEM tutors.
4. Building & School Infrastructure
Work directly alongside local Ghanaian carpenters, masons, and painters on targeted school improvements. Projects include constructing covered dining canteens (The Open Table Project), assembling dual-desks, and refurbishing weather-worn classrooms.
Suits: Practical volunteers, tradespeople, engineering, and architecture students.
5. Media & Documentary Storytelling
Document field handovers, compile photo essays, and record community case studies.
Suits: Film, media, and journalism students, professional photographers, and writers.

Fundraising Your Placement Fee
The majority of our university and young professional volunteers do not pay out of pocket. Upon acceptance, we provide a complete Crowdfunding and Sponsorship Toolkit (including verified project cost sheets and GoFundMe copy) so you can raise your programme fee and an optional classroom materials pot before arriving in Ghana.
University Cohorts & Faculty Groups
We host university groups (6+ students) with formal institutional Memorandums of Understanding (MoU), completed Placement Risk Assessments, and 10% fee reductions. Faculty leaders are hosted at cost.
Our Child Protection & Safeguarding Standard
- Mandatory Police Background Checks: Every volunteer must supply a police certificate dated within 12 months. No exceptions.
- The Strict Two-Adult Rule: Volunteers are never permitted to be alone with a child in any setting, classroom, or vehicle.
- Zero Residential / Orphanage Placements: We do not operate or place volunteers in orphanages. All work takes place in verified community basic schools alongside state teachers.
- Child Social Media Embargo: Volunteers may not post identifiable images of individual children on personal social media accounts.
